It has recently come to my attention that there may be some discrepancy between what a guy and girl consider clean.

For the record, I use guy and girl not out of any sense of diminishing the maturity or grown-upness of the individuals involved - but simply because I cannot - to this day, describe myself as a ‘man’.  I mean, don’t get me wrong, I am a man, and relatively responsible – but somehow to describe myself as a ‘man’ – it just seems too adult-like.  Therefore I choose girl as the opposite description – even though ‘gal’ would probably be more accurate.  The problem?  Gal just seems to echo the attitude of the oilmen of Calgary (where I spent many years) – and it generally was used as a subtly dismissive reference to the woman involved – or used just before some sort of reference to her anatomy.  But I digress.

A guy will look at a floor and think it probably needs to be swept.  A girl will see that it needs to be swept just to determine how much more cleaning is needed.

A guy will give something in the kitchen a quick rinse and put it away – hey, the heat will kill pretty much anything when you cook, right?  A girl will use dish soap.

A guy will look at a toilet and realize that sometime this month it needs a wipe down.  A girl will don rubber gloves and fumigate.

A guy will wash the sheets with every changing season – 4 times a year or so – they’re my dust mites, right?  A girl will wash sheets just because.

A guy will admire dust bunnies the same way that he admires the shapes clouds make.  A girl will kill the bunny.

I’m not saying one way or the other which is the correct approach.  I’m just saying I’ve noticed a difference.
