I bought my copy from a guy standing on a street corner. He stopped me as I was walking by and asked if I was interested in buying a copy. He didn't list a price, just asked for a donation. So I gave him a donation and got a copy. I'm always interested in reading different perspectives and have an interest in alternative media to see what others are talking about.
The magazine is called Regina Streets. It's a small, local publication with a few articles and photos. So far I've only read a couple of the articles and it seems interesting. What I really like about it is that a group of people have something to say and are getting their voice out there. Maybe they feel they're not being served by the mainstream or alternative media in Regina and are not content to write letters or call in to talk shows to have their say. Whatever their motivation, I like that the people behind it have taken it upon themselves to offer a different voice to tell some of the stories of Regina.
This publication represents one of the best freedoms we have in this country. We can debate and exchange ideas freely. We can criticize public policy and question social norms. And we can do it even if we don't work in the media. We can gather writers and publish a local newsletter or magazine. We can blog online. We can offer a variety of voices in different forms of media to serve the public's need for information and debate.
I don't know how long Regina Streets will publish or where I'll be able to get my next copy, but I sure am glad to see that people are taking action to share ideas and stories within their communities.

Finally something that is
Finally something that is not mainstream and thank you Michele for posting this! In time hopefully you will have Murray's job. Too much right wing radio fries my brain. The boom is great if you have money. Why doesn't this station do a story on how the boom has had a negative effect on people trying to find affordable housing? There are many sad stories out there, but all we hear is how great the boom is. Even worse we are stuck with a Sask Party that only cares about the rich. I don't see the Sask Party offering real solutions to people being kicked out of their aparatments that are being turned into condos. They will open it up like Alberta and people will pay more.
