I'm not sold on the Calgary Stampeders. Everyone has said how good the Stampeders are going to be this year with John Hufnagel calling the shots and how Hufnagel could do what Kent Austin did and that is be a former CFL quarterback that comes back to coach a Grey Cup champ in his first season. Its not going to happen. Thursday night proved why the Stampeders aren't going anywhere when it matters and that is the fact that while their offence is great, their defence is still a steaming pile of you know what. Tell me that as you watched Calgary take the lead on that Nik Lewis touchdown in the final 90 seconds and you saw Edmonton coach Danny Macioccia staring at the clock that you weren't thinking he was about to get fired. Calgary should have won that football game and be 2-0 on the season but they didn't because their defence let them down and it won't be the first time this year that will happen.  That is why I am not taking this team to finish above BC and Saskatchewan in the West....they simply aren't good enough on the defensive side of the football and when it hits crunch time, I have no confidence that they can stop anyone. Thats OK though because it means we will see a lot of games like the one against Edmonton which was one of the better ones we have seen in the CFL for the past couple of years. The Stamps and Eskimos brought back the old CFL adage that the game is never over in the CFL until the final gun goes.

Stampeders

The stamps may not be as strong as others are saying, but I wouldn't write them off just yet!!
