I don't envy Rider coach Ken Miller. He is in a no-win situation when it comes to what he is going to do with his quarterback situation over the final two games of the regular season and playoffs and no matter who he goes with he will be second-guessed. Darian Durant had his chance to take a firm grip on the starters position with a fine showing against Hamilton and while he ran the offence rather crisply including some quarterback keepers, he did underthrow several receivers and had three interceptions---two in the endzone. Steven Jyles showed he was more than capable of doing the job and perhaps deserves an opportunity to see what he can do in the starters role and then there is Michael Bishop who went from number one to number three after his efforts Thanksgiving Monday in Calgary. So what direction does Coach Miller lean. He wasn't tipping his hat any during Sunday's post-game media conference and I'm sure he will spend most of Monday looking over the tape to see what went wrong and who should be number one. Miller does admit Durant may have hurt his chances and that Bishop will be considered as will Jyles. I don't know what way he'll go....I don't know what way I would go. I still think what we saw from Durant today was an anomaly and I would still have him as my guy rather than deal with the inexperienced Jyles or the inconsistent Bishop but Jyles' play should merit him some consideration as will Bishop's veteran savvy. This won't be an easy one and its a dilemma I'm sure Miller doesn't want to have leading into the final two weeks of the season. As I said, I would probably lean back to Durant but who would you go with?????? As I said, I don't envy coach Miller one bit on this one.

Don't envy Miller

It is baffling how Durant could get himself in such trouble. Could the wind have been such a factor, as to affect Durant's ability to complete his passes? Maybe coach Miller has to instill, in whoever starts, to play a "control" game, and not to go for the "big play" so often. Shall be interesting to see what will happen.

I think the whole notion of

I think the whole notion of a "starting" quarterback is highly overrated. We have 3 guys who can all be heroes or bums depending on what kind of day they're having. Coach Miller has shown that he pulls that guy who's having an off day and gives someone else a chance. It's a team game so what's wrong with that? The Riders will win as a team, not as a bunch of superstars. That's the way a team should work.

Durant was ok

It is nice to know that Jyles can get the job done in relief, but entering the playoffs we need a bonafide starter and I believe Durant did enough good things to earn that role against Edmonton. Outside of the three interceptions, which are certainly not acceptable, Durant appeared to be effective and was making some good decisions and great plays to avoid sacks. I am concerned about his confidence now though. His post-game comment about the coaching staff obviously not having confidence in him is a very disturbing picture of his thoughts and feelings right now.

Q.B Dilemna

I know that we are in a rather peculiar situation as far as quarterback goes. But after all that has happened, we have won 10 games with 4 different quarterbacks. As long as we have a plan for QB 1, and also a plan in case that does not succeed , We should be fine. Actually we could use all 3 quarterbacks in one game. The coach will define each Q. B strengths and even for a certain play, use a different Q. B. It is hard for Miller to juggle like this, but He has been doing this all year. It is also impossible for the opposition to key on any one Q. B, as eaxh Q. B has their own strong points.... Bill

It seems to me that the

It seems to me that the importance placed on a "Starting Quarterback" being the #1 guy is over stated. We have three QBs that can play. What is wrong with each having a role, ie. Bishop coming in for passing situations when going into a strong wind, the most consistent QB used for short yardage, most consistent in the red zone etc. etc. Other teams do a similar thing without it being a big deal. If all the QBs know they will have a role in the game, they can better get their minds in gear to play. Some of the Riders most successful seasons where when they used a two QB system, not living and dying with trying to find a starter. In my mind, a good coach uses the tools he has, not try and force someone to fit into a role they can't do. ( We know Durant does not have the arm to throw long into the Taylor field wind ) Use the tools the QBs have and don't worry about who is the starter.

I think that there is

I think that there is nothing wrong with using all three quarterbacks if we have to. There is no rule that a team must have a starter quarterback.
It is a team effort. GO RIDERS GO!
