There’s no denying the New Years Day game at Wrigley Field was a huge success for the NHL and one that ensures we will see more outdoor games in the future. After being at the Heritage Classic I would find it hard to duplicate that day and I think the NHL needs to try something new but if it works so be it. Now in whats something likely labeled as in being the pipe dream category, lets see the WHL do this.

Can the Saskatchewan teams along with the Brandon Wheat Kings get together for a day that would never be forgotten. Have a tripleheader of games at Taylor Field…the Broncos and the Wheat Kings followed by the Blades and Raiders with the Pats and Warriors finishing things off. Could it happen?? Would the six teams work together to insure a success?? If it worked, do it again the next year in Saskatoon at Griffiths Stadium. Have CTV or Global make a day of it and bring the games into our living rooms. It would be something never before done in Saskatchewan. I’m sure there are too many logistics that would prevent this from happening but a guy can dream can’t he.

WOW!!

This is a GREAT idea, Mitchell! I can see great commercial success in this for certain types of businesses, as well. This is the sort of thing we have to do, not only to keep hockey fresh and relevant, but to continue the feeling of prosperity that Saskatchewan is experiencing.

We have to keep this idea in front of everybody. It’s time to call your buddy Rob and get his newspaper on board. Then we have to get the other cities' media and mayors on board.

This is a monstrously fabulous idea! Good on ya, Mitchell!!

Rod

I think it's a great idea, Mitch. I'm more of a passive WHL fan, I make it to a half dozen games/year and I would definitely get excited about this. The only negative is you're suggesting this when it is currently -40 outside, and it makes a person think if you could even go ahead with it if the weather turns out like this.

Nice idea but not many

Nice idea but not many people will attend.

Regina can barely fill the

Regina can barely fill the Agridome or Evraz Place or the Brandt Centre... what ever you call it, for a normal game. Saskatoon has even more problems.

While the idea has merit, it won't happen.

If they could find a way to

If they could find a way to hold it in the middle of June I think it would be a great idea. The thought of sitting in -40 weather for 6 - 8 hours outside already makes me shiver.

doubtful

Beer would freeze too quickly and no one wants to see a frozen beer thrown. (Just kidding!)

Great idea Mitch! It would seperate true fans from fairweather fans (literally) and would be a true testament of the Saskatchewan brand of hockey.

A great idea, but it will

A great idea, but it will never fly. As a Pats season ticker holder, I would jump at the first opportunity of an outdoor game involving the Pats. The problem is, people from Brandon are not going to travel 350+ km to Regina to watch an outdoor WHL game. I have doubts that people from P.A. or S.C. will do the same. Unless you are bringing a calibre of hockey similar to that of the World Juniors, it would never work.
.
In a province where people eat and breathe Riders, WHL has been and will always be second fiddle.

Talk is cheap. Besides

Talk is cheap. Besides pounding your chest because you have a great idea now do something about it. You've got contacts, have a serious conversation and update us, we'll be there.

Talk is cheap?

Huh? Mitchell was sound-boarding. Yes, it's free, and that may make it sound cheap. However, it's your first two sentences that are cheap (-shot).

I'm betting you are one of these guys or gals that have a million tonnes of opinion and zero ounces of effort. You want everyone to do something and report back to you, but you'll be at the ready to chop the legs off anyone who comes up a little short.

Well, something like this will require the enthusiastic people of our province to move it forward, and they'll do it knowing there are not enough of your types out there to slow them down.

Whether it happens or not, it is a great, well stated idea. IMHO.

Bad idea.
