I’m not sure what some in Moose Jaw are thinking but I know what many in the city will be thinking if the Western Hockey League steps in and says the Warriors will be relocated to Winnipeg, Victoria or somewhere else. The cost of a new multiplex is only going to go up if this thing isn’t built and built now. In fact it should have already been built or in the process of being built. Look at what has happened over the past year. With a new referendum coming, it means the building might never go up and that would be disastrous for the city. The Warriors would be gone and they will never, ever come back and the city will be stuck with the out of date Civic Centre. A new facility will not only keep major junior hockey in the city….it will bring other events and it will increase the profile of curling, figure skating and other winter sports. It will increase tourism, it might cause a couple of more hotels to be built…..it will do for the city what the Casino, the Spas and the Tunnels have done…it will make the city grow. It will make the city better. Moose Jaw has more to lose than the Warriors and make no doubt about it, no new building means goodbye WHL and I don’t think Moose Jaw hockey fans want to go back to rooting on a SJHL team if that league decides it wants a team to be housed in the dump that no one seemingly wants to let go of. C'mon Moose Jaw...you are better than this and you know it.

i do not profess to be an expert in the situation, but i believe the biggest issue is where it is going to be located not if it should be built.

M.J multiflex

I used to live in M.J for about 8 years and I loved it. Its a great place to live and raise children. But there is a certain negative element in M.J that should once and for all shut up and step aside and let progress proceed. These same people are the ones that apposed the spa many years ago that now are benefiting from its economic spin offs. These same idiots have traveled little and have closed minds and fail to see the big picture. They are envious and jealous that someone might make a buck if the sports arena goes downtown.there will be someone benefiting no mater where it goes so get over it already. You had plenty of opportunity to buy property down town when things where practically being given away. but you did not have enough balls to do so the
n and so quit bitching and holding everything up. down town is by far the best place for it. just talk to Kelowna or stoon. To go to a game in stoon is a night mare. and Kelowna its beautiful. How does 32,000 people leave the rider stadium quite easy ? they leave in 20 different directions you idiots! Think people!

I used to live in M.J for about 8 years and its a great place to live and raise kids. There is a certain negative element that i couldn't stand. These same people where against the spa and now they sure like to enjoy all the economic benefits to the city. These same people are short sighted rarely have traveled and closed minded. They are so scared that someone might make a buck or have a advantage that it drives them nuts.wake up no mater where the multiplex goes someone will have a advantage.these people are so jealous and envious. but when they had a chance to buy property down town for many years when it was practically being given away where were they? they haven't tried anything new or taken a chance their whole life. They inherit their parents money and hoard it and quiver in the corner.Just ask Kelowna or Saskatoon about the down town rink. one will say it was a great sucsess while the other a total failure. These same no minds are so hung up on parking that they will cry about this forever. How does 32,000 people leave Mosaic stadium? they leave in 20 different directions. come on think people. Quit being so lazy and small minded.Quit holding the smart people back in life, get the hell out of the way.

A Dangerous Tightrope In Moose Jaw

This is another poorly researched piece, Mitchell. Most people in Moose Jaw want a new arena, just not one for $70 million. There was a vote a couple of years ago, Mitchell. The electorate was asked if they would be willing to spend $15 million of city money on a Nustadia plan for a multiplex. That $15 million has more than doubled and it is no longer the Nustadia plan. On top of this significant issue is the fact that the mayor knew this before the vote and didn't tell the public until after. These are facts, Mitchell. Then there is the issue of it going downtown at a premium of millions of dollars. Just yesterday the slick city managers awarded a contract to a Regina company to test the soil downtown to see how much it is going to cost to remove the contaminants. This is something that should have been done before deciding it should go downtown, Mitchell. As well, all the properties that are required to be purchased have not been; another fact, Mitchell.

You state that this new multiplex “. . . will increase tourism, . . . cause a couple of more hotels to be built . . .it will do for the city what the Casino, the Spas and the Tunnels have done…it will make the city grow.” Do you have any facts to back this up? If you did a little research, Mitchell, you would find a wealth of facts that disprove this theory of Build It and They Will Come. And maybe you should define “grow.” Grow how? Population? Tax base? None of these occurred because of the Casino, and it will be years before the city breaks even on the gifts to the Spa. These are the facts, Mitchell.

Now, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, Mitchell. However, it would be nice if you did a little bit of research before besmirching the majority of Moose Javians. You should stick to insulting Rider fans.

multimess

oh well warriors go i dont really care this whole fiasco is just so certain people in moose jaw can sell off all that crap property downtown

These are the facts?

Holy crap! I lived in Moose Jaw and saw the benefits of the spa and casino. Over 100 jobs and over 100,000 people that just stayed at the spa and spent money downtown at food, clothing and other shops....I know this because I worked at the spa! The multiplex will bring in trade shows and conventions which in turn bring in cash to small business who employ people who in turn spend money in Moose Jaw. The city of Moose Jaw has reaped the rewards of the money invested in the spa by the millions of dollars in salaries and tourism dollars spent in the city of Moose Jaw.
Mitchell your research is now complete and Fact checker Ron can stick to his old style Saskatchewan thinking and keep on crying!

Multiplex

Well said Mitch!! The big problem is location and tax increase THIS IS WHY WE ELECTED CITY COUNCIL TO MAKE THESE DECISIONS . In the words of Gormly A bunch of cave dwellers (citizens against virtually everything) The same peopple who were against the Casino, cultural center , the Kinsmen sportsplex!!!!!!!!
