The 2008 Riders have won 11 games but they haven't been one-sided dominating victories.....they have been nailbiters, games that come down to the last 5 minutes with a big play being made.
I think its safe to say that what we saw on the Taylor Field turf was the best performance of 08. Offence, defence and special teams all came through big-time. I didn't think Steven Jyles was that bad (first interception excluded) and I was surprised to see him get pulled for Michael Bishop but that's another story for another time. Andy Fantuz showed no rust from his time off, Wes Cates broke off some big runs and Weston Dressler was well he was Weston Dressler. ( I have simply run out of superlatives for this guy although really can't we call him 2008 Rookie of the Year)
Defensively, Mo Lloyd and company were outstanding especially in the first quarter when Edmonton had the wind at its back meaning they could have jumped out into a big lead and really put the pressure on Jyles and the Rider offence. There have been many big hits this year by number 47 but his lick on Ricky Ray and the ensuing Kitwana Jones TD turned the football game around and really it was over after that.
You have to like what you saw and I would be hard-pressed to find any negatives with perhaps the exception of the way the quarterback situation was handled but again that's another topic for another time and I'm sure Ken Miller's reasons for doing so are good one. However, the coach has been around long enough to know there will always be chatter about the quarterback(s), Getting a win like this shows this football team they can blow the doors off of someone and with playoffs right around the corner, if they can come up with a win in Toronto it sets them up well for the playoffs---the West playoffs which I maintain is where this team should be.
They can beat BC no matter where that game is played and considering Henry's failure in playoff games and the fact that the roster will look a lot different than the one that walked into McMahon Stadium Thanksgiving Monday maybe just maybe it will be a chance to do in Montreal what was done in Toronto almost a year ago. Enjoy this one Rider Nation...they don't come around often.

I am wondering if Jyles was
I am wondering if Jyles was pulled because of our lead in the game? No sense risking having him get hurt. Maybe Miller wanted to give Bishop some practice with the returning starters?
At the preseason game, way back in June, my husband leaned over and said that Jyles would be our starting quarterback before the end of the season. He has gloated a number of times since Jyles's number was called.
WOW just doesn't seem enough!
Forget about the score for just a moment. Work with me.
You’ve only won 3 of your last 7 games. The starting QB was the 3rd string QB for most of the year. It was the 3rd starting QB in three games. The QB throws 2 interceptions in the first half. The starting QB is pulled after the first half.
OK. Now try to work scoring 55 points into that paragraph. Huh? How? WOW!
I have been incessantly hard on Ken Miller these past several weeks. I mean, I've been brought up believing that you need consistency in your offence and ingenuity in your defence to win in the CFL. To me, consistency is partially defined as picking your QB and, barring injury, you stick with him. Is it possible that Miller has shifted the paradigm of offensive consistency to mean never allowing a QB to have a full 60 minute bad game?
Now, Jyles was not having that bad a game, other than the two interceptions. It seems that in Miller’s mind, 2 interceptions a half means 4 in a game, and that just doesn’t sit with him. So, out goes Jyles and in comes Bishop, and the rest is wonderful, amazing, exhilarating history.
I’m still not sure what is going through the minds of these three quarterbacks. But, I guess a case could be made for them all at least getting a chance to be a part of a win. And winning is usually a part of a happy, focussed football team. And if they all get to hoist the Holy Grail of the CFL, then maybe that’s enough.
If we move on in the playoffs to take on the Stamps, I will be the first or second to admit that maybe I’m old school and maybe I was wrong about Ken Miller. Maybe. We’ll see. For now, I’ll go with it and see how far it will take us.
In the meantime – WOW, WOW, WOW!!!
Best game ever!
I loved watching us knocking the crap out of Ricky Ray, soundly defeating the Eskimos, and playing every play like it was the Grey Cup. When it was 33-6 at halftime, I was hoping we could end at 66-12. The team record is 58!
My joy overwhelms any downsides 10 times over. The only thing that disappoints me was that the Riders didn't go for the jugular at the end. True sportsmanship is not giving late hits, beating up referees, and blaming the ref for everything. But current "sportsmanship" is witholding your ability to keep racking up points against the other team at the end of a game.
I think that's too bad, cuz I loved watching the Riders run away with it, and I wish they'd kept running. As it was the "part-time fans" (ha ha) who left with 5 1/2 minutes left in the fourth quarter ended up not missing anything, except the Rider defense continuing to shut down all attempts by Jason Maas to get anything going.
Go Riders! Let's remind the folks at the Roger Centre who the champs are!
