CTF Calls For Golf Course Closure
Regent Par 3 loses money againThe Canadian Taxpayers Federation says enough is enough when it comes to a little used, money losing par three golf course in Regina.
"This course is the least-used public space in Regina and one of the least-used par 3's in Canada," Saskatchewah Director Lee Harding tells CJME.
He's referring to the Regent Park Par Three, which has been slated for possible closure for a number of years now but has been granted reprieves by the city.
Harding says the little golf course has cost taxpayers over $350 thousand over the past six years.
High-Rise Apartments Need Sprinklers
Fire department says it can make a big differenceA sprinkler system can make a big difference, according to the Regina fire department.
High-rise apartments in Regina have to have sprinkler systems, if they were built after 1995, but it wasn't made retroactive for older buildings. Yesterday, an apartment fire in Saskatoon drew attention to the fact that the skyscraper did not have a sprinkler systme. Angela Prawzick is with the Regina Fire Department.
"As far as the difference it can make it's huge. Not only in terms of fire damage but also in terms of public safety."
Parking Ticket Crackdown In Saskatoon
City to seize vehicles with outstanding finesRemember to plug that pay off that parking ticket ... or else.
The City of Saskatoon will start towing and impounding vehicles that have unpaid parking tickets.
The city says, effective immediately, vehicles with outstanding parking tickets can be immobilized with a "boot", towed, and impounded until the fines are paid.
Don't try to stop someone trying to put a "boot" on your car or you could face some steep fines.
Individuals can be slapped with a 10 thousand dollars fine. Corporations could face a 25 thousand dollar fine.
Minor Injuries After Pedestrian Struck in Regina
Collision Tied Up Albert Street TrafficRegina police say injuries have turned out to be minor, after an 18-year-old woman was struck by a car Tuesday afternoon.
Police say the vehicle was making a left turn at the corner of Albert and Dewdney when the woman was struck.
The collision forced traffic to be detoured around the intersection for at least a couple of hours.

Drivers Advised to Avoid Albert-Dewdney IntersectionRegina police were advising drivers Tuesday afternoon to avoid the intersection of Albert and Dewdney, after an 18-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle.
It happened around 2:30. Elizabeth Popowich with the police service says the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle turning from Dewdney onto Albert. Police were diverting traffic, to keep the scene clear for evidence-gathering.
Military Board Looks Into Fatal Crash
Crash near CFB Moose Jaw still under investigationA Military Board of Inquiry has begun its investigation into the fatal crash of a Snowbird Jet, near CFB Moose Jaw.
On October 9th, a Tudor jet crashed just a few kilometres from the base, killing pilot Captain Bryan Mitchell, and Sergeant Charles Senecal, a photographer who was taking shots of the base, and other planes in formation.
The board is to find out what caused the crash, and look for ways to prevent future accidents.
Its not known when the report will be finished.
More Condo Conversions Approved
Council not worried about negative impactRegina's City Council doesn't believe that tenants of three Cathedral-area partments will experience "hardships" if the buildings are converted to condominiums.
Some tenants of the three buildings were concerned they would be negatively affected by a conversion, but mayor Pat Fiacco insists the owners provided enough alternate arrangements (like moving allowances and guaranteed rent for those that stay) that tenants would be provided for.
He says the three-hour debate also revealed the need for a closer look at apartments.
Parole Board: No Unescorted Jail Absences
Six people killed on Canada Day 2004The woman who killed six people after drinking and driving near Cochin will not be getting unescorted jail absences.
Norma Jean Mooswa is currently serving a ten year sentence for impaired driving which claimed the lives of six people near Cochin on July 1, 2004.
The National Parole Board denied her request for unescorted absences from jail.
Parole Board Spokesperson Arti Jolly says the board feels Mooswa could still be a threat if allowed to reenter the community without any supervision.
Mooswa will reach her full parole eligibility date in December 2009.
