Should Winter Tires Be Mandatory In Saskatchewan?

Comments

I don't think that's necessary...

Being someone originally from Ontario, I find most of the people in Saskatchewan are pretty good at making sure they have proper tires for winter. The first winter we survived in Regina we learned that living on a bus route means that you see the snow plow February 15th whether you need it or not. I didn't know until that first winter that Saskatchewan only had the one snow plow but now that I know I've been saving my pennies to buy the driver a new toque.

But I have found that the drivers that don't have the proper winter tires are kind enough to park their car well enough off the highway as to not impede the flow of traffic. It's the drivers that brake suddenly and try to park right beside that first car are the ones I have issues with. I guess an open parking spot is something everybody is looking for...

maybe you should go back to

maybe you should go back to ontario.

LOL...

I must have touched a nerve... Sorry :-) LMAO

snow tires

All vehilcles should have snow tires, many lives would be saved and many tax dollars and SGI fee's, all back in our back pockets. The people who voted no, just wait till you get hit by someone who has no snow tires, and hopefully they will not be killed or really hurt.

I agree that snow tires do

I agree that snow tires do have better performance than an all season tires. You only have to drive a car with winter tires to see that the difference is quite significant. However, winter tires really won't make a difference in accident rates. Wait and see what happens in Quebec... The fact is that people accept a certain amount of risk. If my tires perform better then I will drive faster, brake later and get as close to the line as I feel comfortable with. Instead of driving 30 km/hr on that icy road I will now be driving 50 km/h. I probably won't convince everyone of this logic but it is just human nature. Check the statistics next spring in Quebec on the accident rates.

SHOULD SMART DRIVING BE

SHOULD SMART DRIVING BE MANDATORY? YES THERE HAVE BEEN LOTS OF YEARS AND LOTS OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE DROVE ALL WINTER ON ALL TERRAIN TIRES AND DON'T HAVE PROBLEMS. SOME PEOPLE COULD HAVE TRACKS ON VEHICLES AND STILL HAVE A HARD TIME

mandatory??

I drive on all seasons. I don't get stuck, I drive slower and I pay attention to where I am going, and the weather. Why would I have to go to the expensive of new rims and new tires just because other people drive blindly? We let people drive around texting while they drive, with lowered suspensions, tinted windows, boom boxes so that you can't hear ambulances, police, etc, and we're worried because I drive around the city in all-seasons?????? Geez, get a life out there!!

I couldn't agree more.

I couldn't agree more. Winter tires don't make up for stupid drivers! A good set of all-seasons and half a brain is all one needs.

... and the term "all-season

... and the term "all-season radials" should be changed to "summer tires"!

I once went to purchase a

I once went to purchase a sports car in February (getting ready for summer) which had "summer tires" on. The tires were rock hard and spun in one spot...we could not even get the car off the lot for a test drive (not that I would have that time of year). All seasons are not summer tires. They are exactly what they say they are - ALL SEASONS. We need to remember that sometimes conditions are not safe to drive no mattter what tires we have on our vehicles. Drive for the conditions with all season tires in good condition and all will be fine. And if you're scared - STAY HOME.
