Drop prices into reasonable range, sales will follow. The quality of the big 3 is sub par. I'm all for buying locally, but my next vehicle will be Japanese
when you're losing money on every vehicle, you can't drop the price further. There needs to be a different solution. Besides, Big 3 vehicles are thousands less than the asians already
The reason they're losing all of this money is because they have CAW workers earning $90 to drop a windshield into a car. Give me a break! On top of that, all of their executives are earning multi-million dollar salaries.
The woes of the auto industry are self-inflicted to a certain degree and I don't really feel sorry for them. I also don't believe that the government should be bailing them out. If I had a business that was going in the tank, would they bail me out. Just the same, they should not be helping out the banks, most of which have posted record profits for the past few years.
So, I hope the government doesn't help automakers. If they do, they should be required to go through a restructuring and slash salaries, etc.

Do the Japanese automakers have recurring paint issues such as GM did in the early 80's, early 90's and again in around '04? How about the famous intake manifold gaskets on the early Vortec engine? Did anyone get reimbursed? How about Dexcool?????
Auto prices can be much lower, a Toyota or Honda doesn't depreciate the way an american vehicle does.

I have a Toyota & I love it. I think Japanese cars sell here because they know what we need and want.
Why don't the big 3 do that also - look around the world & expand their
market according to the wants and needs of the people? What they are offering now doesn't attract buyers overseas.(Nor did it attract me.) I guess that's why we didn't see one single American vehicle while in Europe.

Exactly! If the auto sector needs money that badly they should collect it from Buzz Hargrove. He was the getting the auto union workers to strike for these ridiculous raises and bonus packages. When you can buy a Japanese vehicle that gets 52MPG and then see a commercial for a GM that gets 24MPG... Come on... It's time the BIG 3 sobered up and got in the game. Give a vehicle that gets 60MPG and you need funding, I'll gladly help out by buying one of your vehicles. Maybe the best thing would be to let KIA or Hyundai buy out GM or Ford... and go non-union! :-)
Interesting the the people of Ontario want us to help bail out their auto industry.
Where were they when the federal government, dominated by Ontario MP's, refused to bail out western Canadian farmers a few years ago when prices were at all time lows and the yields were poor from draught, frost, etc?
No to $500 million for western farmers but yes to billions for overpaid workers in an industry that can't compete? No thanks.
for the years that car dealers have gouged us and now they want us to help them with ridiculously higher purchase price compared with the states, with lower quality compared with asian and japaneese cars, fighting with warrenty problems. i don't feel a bit sorry ,i think american cars dug their own grave and it was just a matter of time. i drive toyota 1st one, but the american car market has to really up their quality of their vehicles, lower prices, better warrenty and more personable sales department before i would buy american made
