Ours are turned on November 1st. My neighbor has her tree up by Nov. 2nd. She starts her xmas shopping on Boxing Day for the next year. Nov. 1st is about right.

I wish people would go back about 20 years and start celebrating Christmas in December. I find it very dis-respectful to our veterans when retailers start advertising Christmas in October. Christmas has become completely worn out by December 24th. I can understand why people would setup their lights when the weather is still warm but leave them off until until December and save some electrical energy and greenhouse gas.

any Christmas lights turned on or decorations set up before Nov 11 is showing your ignorance to the horrors of war as well as disrespectful to our veterans. shame on you

Anyone who has waited until December, and has had to install the lights with temps of -30 has learned the virtues of early installation, like now. Those eavetrough clippy things don't fare well at that temperature. However, do not turn them on mid November, wait till December for that. Also do not leave them up till spring as this looks real bad as well.

I think December 1st is early enough to be turning on the Christmas lights and they should be turned off by January 7th (after Ukranian Christmas)
It is annoying as well to hear Christmas carols in October and I agree with other comments that Remembrance Day is just that - to show respect to our vets.

We don't turn on our lights until Dec. 1. I will put them up when weather is nicer. I like stores putting out crafting supplies early as I am a crafter and like having time to work on my projects, however, actual decorating should not begin before Nov. 15. As for shopping, I wait until after Nov. 11 unless I see something really unique that I would not be able to find later.

If lights are turned on before Nov 11th, I truly believe you are disrespecting all veterans that allow you to live the lives enjoyed today. Do whatever you want after the 11th, mine were up in Oct, but won't turn on until Dec 1st. My part to save the world and use less power I suppose.
