I am finished my shopping and the gifts are wrapped and under the tree. I didn't finish until last week, my neighbor finished in Se[tember. She has her lights on and tree up by Nov.1st. My lights don't go on until about Nov. 2. The tree goes up then too. Merry Christmas!
Would people get over this problem of putting on lights or setting up a tree before Rememberance Day. One can still observe Rememberance Day and have xmas lights on; they are not mutually exclusive. Enter any mall on Nov.11 and let me assure you they are busy! I was in the USA this past Nov.11 and there it is not a holiday everything was open regular hours. I will continue putting my lights on in early Nov. and still wear a poppy.

If you start earlier then you can spread the expense over a couple of months and you don't get hit with huge bills in January. I try to be done my shopping by the end of November so that my December expenses are largely entertainment related (parties, new outfit, etc.)

I shop year round. That way it spreads the money out, but I also get what I want and get some good deals. I hate last minute shopping as I would probably buy something just to buy it.

I hate shopping so when I buy gifts I go in November and beat most of the rush and super busy stores. You get done faster and with less stress. And the best part is the line ups aren't nearly as long.

I do 1/2 my baking and shopping in November. Reduces the stress later and the bills. As for putting the tree up its not done until Dec.1. If you put it up too early by the time Christmas comes you can't wait to get rid of it! All that magic is gone. Lights get done in mid November but not turned on till Dec 1.
As for being energy conscious it also makes the magical season all more special getting things put up and turned on later.
I try to get my shopping done in Nov., but if I finish too early I just keep finding more for my kids and I go over board... happens most years anyway. I have always put my lights on and tree up first or second week of Dec. This year my tree is already up. I take my tree down on Boxing Day or the day after no matter when I put it up.. once Christmas Day is over I am done with Xmas.

Christmas is Jesus birthday so He gets the gifts. On our children's and grandchildren's birthday, it is extra special and they get the gifts. This year they gave guinea pig ranches to third world countries and sponsered orphans. This means the giving is happening all year.
