Dion Green Criticism Remains

Nothing But Green-Shafted According to Energy Minister
Story Tools

While Liberal Leader Stephan Dion continues to tout his green shift plan...he leaves behind some harsh criticism in his wake.

Saskatchewan Energy and Resources Minister Bill Boyd calls Dion's attitude ``arrogant", calling the plan an attack on Saskatchewan's economic prosperity and says it's politically motivated to gain favour in Ontario and Quebec.

Dion says taxing carbon producers would force the energy-centric economies of Alberta and Saskatchewan to diversify -- which he maintains would be good in the long run.

green "shaft"

all this is nothing but a vote getter for ontario so the west can get hosed again heaven forbid if western canada has more wealth then ontario all dion cares about is the "lattee" votes in toronto

Green Shift?

How could Stephane Dion possibly know how our economy will be doing in ten years when he can't answer how his insane plan will affect us in one year? We have waited decades to finally break free of narrow minded governing and now we have the man who will kill the economy of western Canada. Stephane Dion may very well be remembered as the man who restarted the Western Separation movement. If it happens the Quebec separation may seem very trivial indeed. I almost feel as if we should restict the flow of oil and raw goods to the east and have our products processed here and in foreign jurisdictions. I wonder if people in Toronto could run their city on Mr. Dion's hot air. I think I'll go out in my open space and clean air and enjoy a Saskatchewan sunset, free from the noise and pollution of the east. To Mr. Dion I say never again to a NEP or his Green Shift. The only green that will be shifting will be hard working westerners green cash.

Green Shift

I couldn't agree more. As much as I love this country, Dion is out to lunch and is strictly trying to buy votes in Ontario and Quebec. It's all about more power for him and less wealth for us in the West. Let's see, BC, ALBERTA, SASKATCHEWAN, AND MANITOBA. That would make a nice size country with very bountiful resources and wealth--wealth that would no longer be transferred to the East--we could call it Canada West. I hate to sound like a separatist, but that kind of talk has seemed to work well for Quebec in the past. Food for thought, people.

40% of the carbon tax (note

40% of the carbon tax (note how Dion tries to repackage it as carbon pricing) will be paid by SK and AB. A quick bit of math puts that at over $6 BILLION. ANNUALLY. On the backs of 4.5 million people (probably about 4 million taxpayers). That's over $1300 per man woman and child getting sucked out of our pockets and transferred to central Canada every single year.
The difference between Quebec and Western Canada is when we start talking seriously about separation, it won't be if but how quickly can we do it.

going it alone

I think this is just what we need to revitalize western seperation. What a lunatic. Lets see, we got food, water, gas, uranium, potash, and some blood sucker from the east wants to 'help' us out with a little taxation. I'm no politician, but I smell a rat.

the Green Grab

I have yet to see one Liberal Law that benefits "All" of Canada !
The Young Offenders Act, the Lowering of the ageof Sexual Consent allowing "children" age 14 to be offered as "Prey" for Pedophiles, the Gun Law, the Removal of Parental Rights, and now a "Money Grab Green Proposal.
Get a grip Mr Dion, you & the Liberals have "Never" had the Best Interist of Canadians at heart !

Green Shift

Trust the Liberals to come up with a plan to tax not consumption of fossil fuels, but instead tax the extraction of resources from the ground. Where does all our oil and uranium go to but Ontario and Quebec to fuel their cars and reactors - people who consume so much power they have brown outs, and pollute so badly with their manufacturing that the Great Lakes are full of sludge and toxins, and have so much smog they can't go outside for half the summer. And Dion calls us polluters!!! If the resources were in central Canada this garbage would never have been dreamed up. If those fools in Ontario and Quebec elect Dion the west should separate - and charge those holier than thou easterners triple for the resources they want to tax us for providing.

We must take a Western Canada stand

We must take a stand in Western Canada against this diabolic human being they refer to as Stephan Dion. This guy isn't even 100% Canadian , he's dual citizen in Canada AND France, and he's trying to ruin this great country of ours. I voted for Goodale the past 3 elections and that all came to a END as of this week. I could care less who the PC's put up against Goodale, I will vote for that man or woman in a second. The lesser of two evils will now be the PC's. We cannot risk splitting vote by voting NDP - it's PC or else Goodale wins and he supported Dion on CTV Regina news Friday. Absolutely Disgusting.

The Last Straw

I think if this man gets into power and puts this "pricing" on us... we'll just have to threaten them with an embargo or separate. Where do they think all their oil and uranium comes from? The sky? And Dion calls "them" people the polluters... look at what they did to the great lakes and harbors... filled with sludge and crap... but we are the polluters... hahaha. It's just lucky for the east that the 20th century was a manufacturing age... where they didn't give 2 bits about the environment... maybe they should be taxed for that since there was nothing to tax them back then. So when it's Saskatchewan's turn up to the plate for a real boom, not a government boom, but a true natural boom, we must get punished for it... because Ontario's manufacturing industy is going to waste. I say, if they want to do this to Sask. and Alberta, let them, but don't you dare forget the consequences that you will take on, Mr. Dion. Never mess with the west!
