Doug Christie, Western Block Party Leader, and advocate of western independence, will be speaking at the Best Western Harvest Inn and Suites in Saskatoon tonight.

Christie has been advocating the separation of the western provinces from the rest of canada since the 1970s.

Christie told Newstalk Radio's John Gormley Live, he feels resource ownership is the most compelling argument for western separation.

"It's the only hope we have in western Canada. They're (the federal Liberal Party) going to steal the wealth of Saskatchewan, the way they did to Alberta alone in 1980," Christie said.

Christie feels Liberal Leader Stephane Dion's Green Shift plan would be disastrous for the economies of the western provinces, similar to the effects of the National Energy Program put in place by then Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in 1980.

reguardless what happens the

reguardless what happens the west will never gain independance .....even if Dion gets in power....

seperation

I am in favor of seperation. Its time to say Good Bye to those arrogant Eastern people .We can make it with out them. ITS TIME

I would just love for the

I would just love for the west to be its own nation. Things would be so much better. There is just to much of a difference in thoughts between us and them.

Separate

I see Easterners like a see I see New Yorkers. Nice foreign people out east. I have no affinity with Central and Eastern Canadians. We should form a new centre of power out West. We could then flourish culturally rather than have everything go to Ontario and Quebec.

I left Canada years ago. My country ends at the Eastern Manitoba border.

western separation

I agree that the west needs to separate itself from Eastern Canada it is the only way our voices will ever be listened to. It would also create a more even political landscape that would keep politicans more honest in dealing with taxpayers funds.Ontario has too many seats an the only way to offset this imbalance is to unite the western seats. The tories and the liberals have both had more than enough time to prove themselves and both have failed at creating a united Canada. Quebec keeps these vultures at bay with very little effort due the Bloc Quebecois continual domination of seats and when they lose every Canadian seems to pay alot more somehow. So by giving gov't majority we give them permission to screw us right over, free trade , gst over regulation etc. Are we not free thinking people who at know the difference between what is good or have we become the week-kneed spineless Canadian that just says well there is nothing we can do about it.
Maybe its time to to try something different whats the worst that could happen,we get control of resources and the east has to our *** for a change and we might have voice that doesn't get bought by the east as soon as new electees are given political powers. This is just my opinion but it seems to be a growing thought amonst more and more people in the west.
