Riders Steal Banjo Bowl
Luca Congi's 29 yard field goal on the final play of the game gives the Saskatchewan Roughriders an improbable 34-31 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to take the Banjo Bowl and complete a sweep of the home and home series. Winnipeg led the game 31-14 after three quarters of play but Michael Bishop touchdown passes to Vincent Marshall and Weston Dressler closed the gap to 3. The team then tied it with a 114 to play on a 17 yard Congi field goal.
After Winnipeg could not move the ball, the Riders got the ball back with a minute to play and got into Congi's range when Bishop connected with newcomer Gerran Walker on a 45 yard catch. The win moves the Riders to a record of 8-2 with Winnipeg falling to 2-8. Saskatchewan's next game will be next Saturday in Vancouver as they meet the Lions in the first of a home and home between the two Western Division rivals.

Comments
I was at the game...
...and telling the bomber fans that 17 points is nothing and they should stop thinking it was over. My 10 year old daughter and I can't talk because we lost our voices from cheering so much.
Got to love the Riders.
Way to persevere.
What a finish
That's what I call a rally. This Riders team is on the rebounds. I think Conga is looking to be the CFL Kicker/Special Teams Player of the Year. He's clutch
reffing is a prob!!!
look!!!!time has come as a rider NATION!!!to get the message thru to cfl!!!!when not one...but both teams have used up challenges ..before half time? tells me we have a prob with officiating!!!andre proulx to be exact...yes the same guy as last year.when any team has to lose a game cause challenges are used up...why are there that many challenges if they are doing their job right?because andre proulx has shown from last year and now...he is only good for schoolyard flag football...as a rider nation i ask for every other melon head to e-mail cfl tom cohen...and say enuf is enuf!!!!sure we won,but thats not the point...the point is we have a terrible official and it is a BLACK mark on this league.......please listen !!!
Who are these guys? The TV
Who are these guys? The TV commentators were showing that our starting 5 receivers had fewer games in total than any one of the receivers on Winnipeg. And Michael Bishop, well, hopefully the doubters are quieted for at least one week. It has shown the past 2 games that with a QB who can run, it opens things up for Cates more. Finally the receivers were making catches - and several of them were spectacular! And we all knew that Dressler was a find, but did we really think he would be this quality a player so soon?
Also, I think the refs need to be more consistent in their calls. That touchdown that was ruled incomplete was quite obviously a TD, and there were several other blown calls as well. But, we won in spite of it all. I think the 2 reviews per game is ridiculous, but I guess there has to be a limit. However, I believe that if you are right, you can have one more review per half, but if you are wrong, then the second wrong one you lose a time out, or something like that. I don't think you should be punished when you are right.
Rider Pride
How can we as Rider fans not be proud of these guys. The defense came through in the end and stopped Glenn cold, and Bishop, Cates and the rest of that rookie offense played fantastic. I hadn't even heard of a couple of these guys until tonight. Hat's off to you. I will always bleed green.
Go Riders
we are a world away & 8 hrs ahead of sk. but chked the banjo bowl score ae first daylite.. the magic continues GO RIDERS!! Ron Jeffery [weyburn] temporarily in Norway
Spearing
Can someone explain the “spearing” rules to me – I thought it was illegal to lead with your head when making a tackle. Ian Logan made 2 “tackles” during the recent game in Winnipeg where he clearly led with his head. The play where Cates was knocked woozy and 2 plays later when Bishop scrambled inside the 5 both culminated in illegal hits in my eyes. Both hits were clearly made with Logan’s facemask pointed directly at the turf, not only leading with his head but contacting the Rider ball carrier in the helmet. In fact, Logan’s helmet was below the plane of his shoulder pads on both occasions – and it doesn’t take much of a scientist to determine that this isn’t possible unless you are looking straight downward – therefore, leading with the helmet.
I don’t recall the hit on Dressler during the Labor Day game in Saskatchewan, but this same clown was involved in that as well. I hope the Riders send the tapes to the league pointing out the 2 infractions from Sunday.
In hindsight, Logan was the guy beaten deep on all of the Rider big plays downfield – (among others) Dressler’s 2nd touchdown, Marshall’s touchdown and Walker’s catch with 5 seconds to go. Maybe this pipsqueak should concentrate a little more on being in position instead of breaking the rules to try and knock somebody out. Talentless hack …
TEAM PLAY
The Riders show what the term "TEAM' actually means.
The Riders play as a team, which is why there are in first place in the west.
Again, they never gave up. The word "LOSE" is not in the Riders vocabulary.
Where did they come up with Marhall, & Walker ?
How about this Weston Dressler kid !!!!!!!!!!
It's going to be a tough decision to make when D.J. comes back.
My guess is that they will go with D.J. due to his experience.
Is is possible that they can use both D.J. & Dressler @ the same time ???
What a combo that would be !!!!!!!
Picking up Bishop was one of the many, many great moves made by "ERIC THE GREAT".
The coaches tell him what they need, & he just goes out & gets them like it is no big deal.
"GO-GETTEM-RIDERS"!!!!!!!!!!!
