Police say a routine traffic check east of Swift Current caught a jewel thief wanted in Toronto.

Swift Current's Traffic Roving Patrols pulled over a car on Tuesday on the Trans Canada just outside of Swift Current.

Police say the driver was acting nervous, and when he was asked to get out of the vehicle, he took off on foot.

After a lengthy chase, and physical struggle, police arrested the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Gustavo Ramirez of Toronto.

It turns out a warrant was sworn out in Toronto for Ramirez as a suspect in a million-dollar armed diamond heist.

Ramirez is expected to shipped back to Toronto to face charges.
