Lingenfelter Makes It Official
He becomes the first in the running to replace Lorne Calvert
It's official.
Former Deputy Premier Dwain Lingenfelter has become the first candidate in the race to replace Lorne Calvert as leader of the NDP.
At an announcement Thursday morning, there were signs with Lingenfelter's picture saying "Winning Leadership...Leadership with Vision".
Several NDP MLA's flanked Lingenfelter as he made the announcement in Regina.
He says his main goals are to beat Brad Wall in 2011, rebuild party policy and increase membership.
Earlier this month, Lorne Calvert announced he was stepping down as soon as a new leader is picked.
That will come when the NDP gather for a convention in Regina in June.

Thank goodness
Thank goodness. Bring in the same old , same old type of person and guarantee Brad Wall to be in power for next 20 years ! Province should be as rich as Saudi Arabia by then, with no NDP RED TAPE.
Put aside your dislike for
Put aside your dislike for The NDP, this is a great move!
He will win the nomination
He will win the nomination but I don't see him sitting in the leg anytime soon unless someone in the NDP steps down in one of the cities. He can then sit in opposition for at least 7 years before possibly becoming premier. Does he realize that these are not good times for the NDP. Right now the Sask Party are doing everything right and should able to win at least another term before the NDP overlords return to try and unionize the province.
He's got to be kidding!
Lets see, a has been opportunistic politician that deserted his socialist ship like a rat leaving a sinking ship (for a high paid position with a capitalist free market company), with questionable personal values; hopes to be the next Premier of Saskatchewan. Either he has to be kidding or he really has no respect for the intellegence of Saskatchewan voters, obviously it must be the latter.
