Auto Clearing Motor Speedway victimized in paving scam

A Saskatoon business victimized in a paving scam is exploring its options in order to recoup lost money.

Auto Clearing Motor Speedway is out $12,000 after paying for some incomplete and subpar work. Herm Hordell says the con artists came to the track with a sweet-sounding deal.

"The cost of the pavement was going to be much less than what we would normally pay," Hordell says. "We needed to get a job done, so we jumped at it. Unfortunately, we really got scammed."

Hordell adds, "They tried to get more dollars and cents to finish a job that was very inadequate right from the get-go."

The speedway is checking with its insurance company to see if there's any coverage. Canada-wide warrants have been issued for two Ontario men thought to be the scam's ringleaders.

Hordell is worried the scam may have spread to Regina, and is hopeful police catch the con artists soon.

"(It's) the old story," he says. "Something that sounds too good to be true probably is not true."

PAVING SCAM

Same thing happened to me with some local Regina Area pavers. They did a substandard job and will not come good to do a proper job. They always have and excuse. Beware of any low-cost pavers.
