Police Warn of Purse Thefts
Story Tools

Saskatoon Police are reminding women to watch their purses when they visit the local grocery store.

Over the last 5 months, police say there have been about 15 incidents between two grocery stores, one on 8th street and one on Confederation Drive.

In the incidents, the victim turns away from her shopping cart for just a moment.

It's then that the culprit lifts their purse from the cart and walks away.

What's worse is if you leave

What's worse is if you leave your purse open, they just take your wallet, and you don't know anything's wrong until you go to pay for your groceries. W5 (or a news show like it) aired a story on this a few years ago: rather than taking the wallet, the "thief" placed a note in the ladies' purse saying that they could have stolen their wallet because they left it unattended. These women were stopped as they were leaving the store for a "man on the street" type interview, and were convinced that it couldn't happen to them... until they found the note in their bag. Just goes to show that we're not as conscientious about these things as we think we are.
