Province Brings In Changes To Gift Card Rules

Just in time for the Christmas gift buying season, a change in the way gift cards work.  News Talk Radio's Benson McCulloch talked with the Justice Minister Don Morgan Monday morning on details relating to the Consumer Protection Amendment Act. Effective today, gift cards or certificates no longer have expiry dates and no inactivity fees. Morgan says he has the support of both consumers and retailers.

what about existing cards? i have one that i recieved a month ago.... if it has an automatically decreasing balance, ( i havent used it yet), can it be changed?

what are the penalties for retailers that refuse to deactivate thier fees?
