Sask Party Convention Wraps

Debt reduction, senate elections, working age priorities
Story Tools

It was an easy spotlight for Premier Brad Wall at the Saskatchewan Party convention this weekend in Saskatoon, but it wasn't the election anniversary that was the cause for celebration.

The biggest cheer was for debt reduction as Premier Brad Wall appeared in front of hundreds of supporters. While tallying election promises kept, Wall kept the focus on debt reduction and the hope of reducing it to zero. Wall insists he isn't committing to completing that goal before the end of their first term.

"Given where market prices are today that would probably seem pretty difficult. But then again, that could change. That could change in a week."

Wall maintains a debt reduction plan is not a cynical election plot, because it will only be done if there are the resources to do so.

One resolution passed at the convention focuses on the working age in Saskatchewan. Many are calling for 14 year-old kids to be allowed to work up to 30 hours a week with parents permission.

year 4...the debt will be paid off

Yes, Brad...whatever you say. Year 4 in your mandate, you'll come up with an amazing debt reduction payment to pay off the debt, instead of doing it now when we have 3 billion in a bank account. Save up for the election, Brad! Buy some votes. You may even want to break your own law, like your hero, Harper, and have it to coincide when you pay off the debt!

Sask Party polcy resolutions

You have to wonder if the reporter even attended the convention. She apparently overlooked several significant social and environmental policies including policies for youth at risk, sustaining the high school graduation rate, promoting small scale wind energy, getting rid of plastic grocery bags, organic waste to energy conversion, and lifecycle emissions evaluation on government procured goods and services. Surely these policies are news worthy.
