The Jaw Dropping Economic Impact Of Potash Corp In Saskatchewan
The impact from a $4.8 Billion dollar Potash Corp expansion plan is expected to be staggering.
In Lanigan, (population 1,300) the mining company is anticipating the creation of 900 jobs directly related to mine expansions.
In Rocanville, (population 887) the impact should be even larger. Potash Corp is forecasting over 3000 contruction jobs will be created in the town.
In total, 11,000 new jobs will be created during peak contruction in 2010.
Once operational, 14 and a half thousand new jobs will be created and sustained over the life of the mines.
Chief Financial Officer Wayne Brownlee says these will be high-paying jobs. "They are probably going to average more than $100,000 per worker. Pretty good jobs. These are not 'call centre' jobs."

This is great news for
This is great news for Saskatchewan, But how about a little credit for the Saskatchewan FARMERS who are making this possible by puchasing the end product...high priced fertilizer!
Not for Sask Farmers
The FARMERS are in CHina and developing countries that are pushing demand for Potash. Think global not local that's how Potashcorp got where it is. Our farmers need to start thinking the same way and reap the benefits of increasing global demands and alter their production accordingly.
CDN farmers have very little to do with success of Potash
The farmers responsible for Potash Corp's success have very little to do with Canadian farmers. Consumption of Potash last year in tonnes was as follows:
China 7,800,000
USA 6,100,000
Brazil 3,500,000
India 2,800,000
France 1,100,000
Canada is so far behind at 328,000 (4.2% of China's consumption), we don't even use as much as Israel's 578,000 tonnes. So before making comments about how Canadian farmers are somehow responsible for Potash Corp's success, really re-read those numbers above and then think twice of the real reason why they are so successful.
Goto this link to their website and click on the market map and see it for yourself, I didn't make this up:

While this boom in jobs is
While this boom in jobs is great, let's see how well they do on the safety end of things with all the chaos and confusion!
Fertilizer and Farmers
Lee.......
Saskatchewan Farmers use next to nothing for Potash as a fertilizer. We actually have so much we export it.
Have to see the big picture
The news of 15000 new jobs is great on all fronts, however our provincial and municipal governments must be prepared to accommodate a large influx of workers and their families. Potash Corp can have all the money in the world for expansion, but without the workers to build and run these projects we might as well tell Mr. Brownlee that our infrastructure just can't support his needs.
Tax the people moving to
Tax the people moving to this province for these jobs. Give Saskatchewan folk who have been living here the benefits (tax breaks).

You are almost there. How about a little credit for the people buying the grain and eating it at high prices enabling farmers to buy potash
