A mother loses her daughter, and a daughter loses her mother.

The killing of 19-year-old Charlotte Jolly has sent emotional shock waves through a Saskatoon family.

A 17-year-old witness and friend, who wants his identity protected, said she was shot with a rifle after a group approached Jolly and two friends, unprovoked, in an alleyway.

It happened early Tuesday morning behind an apartment complex on Avenue W near 33rd Street.

And while they know nothing will bring Charlotte back, her family wants closure.

Charlotte's godmother, Leona Gates, was out of town on holidays. When she came back, she was told the tragic news. She said she was hoping it was all a bad dream.

"(I was) thinking I was going to wake up and that it wasn't true." said Gates.

Gates said she knew Charlotte her whole life as she's been friends with Charlotte's mother, Lisa, for over 25 years.

Gates said Charlotte, who turned 19 last month, was a good person, who loved her 18--month-old daughter, Alexis, more than anything.

"She had no fear, and she was always standing up for the underdog."

She's asking anyone who knows anything to speak out, mostly for the baby's sake.

"Please help Alexis find her mommy's killer," said Gates. "The baby does not need to grow up knowing her mommy was murdered and they never found the guy"

Gates is asking the public to put themselves in her family's shoes.

"What if it happened to your sister, or your daughter, or your cousin? You wouldn't want someone being quiet if it happened to somebody in your family," said Gates.

"Somebody has to come forward and get these guys off the street."

Gates message didn't just stop at the public, she had one for the killer too.

"I hope they rot in hell, I really do. I don't want to wish bad on their family but, you know, the vindictive side of you (almost) wishes that something would happen to their family so they could feel what this family is going through."

Gates has posted messages on two Facebook groups made in respect to Charlotte asking the public for help.

Her statement reads as follows:

I am Charlotte's godmother. She was like my own child. Please everyone out there if you know who did this or have any information please go to the police. Nobody can accuse you of being a rat. You need to do this for Lisa and Alexis. Please help Alexis find her mommy's killer. Alexis misses her mommy. Lisa lost her only child. Please please help catch Charlotte's killer. Please....................

Gates told CKOM,  that when the time comes, she'll gain back the god-child she lost, in 18-month-old Alexis.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Saskatoon Police immediately.

"It happened early Tuesday

"It happened early Tuesday morning" as a child my mother was taking care of me most "early mornings", I guess that kept us both safe and out of trouble.

That is just so wrong for

That is just so wrong for you to say that.We as Saskatoon residents should be safe on the streets no matter what time of day it is..

Truth still hurts

True, but no one deserves that. No matter what bad choices they make.

I agree with everything

I agree with everything Leona said...The parents breeding these gun & knife toting 'young offenders' should get a dose of pain and loss as big as the victims have to experience. I know I'm speculating that the perpetrator is a young offender but I am willing to bet on it... RIP Charlotte and my deepest sympathy to your Mom, Daughter and all who love you...
