Who cares about the so-called "Super Sunday" that never materialized? "Wonderful Wednesday" is what has Canadians cheering.

Hockey fans were thrilled as Canada beat Russia in Olympic play for the first time in fifty years Wednesday evening. Jarome Iginla, Rick Nash, Sidney Crosby, and the rest of the squad came out strong and kept the pressure up for the whole game.

"Russia's a pretty strong team so, I THOUGHT it was going to be pretty close..." one relieved fan said. Another had a good feeling about the future: " Olympics are being played in Canada... Luongo's from Vanocouver, so home turf for that kid... we're going to rock this show. No doubt. No doubt."

In the end, it was Canada 7, Russia 3. Team Canada will take on Slovakia in the semi-final Friday.

Wednesday was also one of our country's best Olympic days ever. Canadians won four medals, highlighted by gold and silver in the women's two-man bobsled. The women's three-thousand-metre short-track speedskating relay team moved up to a silver from third place after the South Koreans were disqualified.

And on the long-track, Clara Hughes added a bronze in the five-thousand-metres- in what is to be her final Olympic games. It's Hughes' sixth medal between the summer and winter games, in an Olympic career that began in Atlanta in 1996 with a bronze in cycling.

Canada's women's hockey team takes on the U.S. in the gold medal match Thursday night.
