As a forensic pathologist showed pictures to a jury at the Mark Stobbe murder trial, the defendant was slouched over the desk with his face buried in his hands.

Stobbe was a former top advisor to Roy Romanow before moving to a government position in Manitoba. Now he is on trial for second-degree murder in Winnipeg, accused of killing his wife Beverly Rowbotham.

Mike McIntyre, host of Crime and Punishment on News Talk Radio and crime reporter for the Winnipeg Free Press was at the trial Tuesday and joined John Gormley to describe the scene. He said jurors looked very uncomfortable as they saw photos of Stobbe’s wife Beverly Rowbotham after her death.

Today in court a forensic pathologist, Dr. John MacDonald is showing photos to the jury and describing the injuries suffered by Rowbotham. The pictures show her fingers were cut off in what the doctor calls defensive injuries.

The crown alleges Stobbe, slashed Rowbotham numerous times with a hatchet before driving her body to a Selkirk parking lot and leaving the car. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
