A 38-year-old Regina male, Mark Jeffrey James Severight, is facing a charge of manslaughter after a 48-year-old woman died as a result of injuries sustained in an assault in Regina on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Police were called to a house on the 2000 block of Edgar Street where they found Elise Anne Cote, who appeared to be the victim of an assault, laying in the front yard of the property.

The woman was transported to hospital with serious injuries, while police interrogated the four people who were in the house.

Police received word just after 6:00 p.m. on Thursday that Cote died in hospital.  Her family has been notified of her death.

Elizabeth Popowich with the Regina police believes that Cote and Severight were known to each other, but can’t elaborate on the extent of their relationship.

Police initially charged Severight with assault, who is now facing manslaughter charges. He appeared in court Friday morning.

Police say this is the first homicide in Regina in 2012.
